Embrace YOUR GOD-GIVEN PURPOSE
The best advice I can give you is this — listen to your life.
Pay attention to your life and you will find the answer if you listen.
— Frederick Buechner
Your purpose is found at the point where gifts, talents, passions, experiences, story, personality, and desires intersect. As you reflect on these words inspired by my friend Jenni CaTron in her book Clout, listen and pay attention to what first comes to mind when you read the corresponding questions.
GIFTS = How has God gifted you? A gift is something God has enabled you to do without prior training.
TALENTS = What are some of the strengths you were born with? Those things that are innately you.
PASSIONS = What are some of your passions? What is it that you would stay up all night discussing?
EXPERIENCES = What are some of the life experiences you have had? (Some of these may go back to childhood.)
STORY = Think about your background — your family, parents, and neighborhood. Where were you in the birth order?
PERSONALITY = Your personality is what adds energy to your purpose. Text some of your friends, and as Jenni says, ask them to describe your personality with the first word that comes to mind. Who would you text?
DESIRES = What would you love to do if you weren’t afraid, or if there was no limit to your time, money, or opportunities? What is your wildest dream? When you were a child/teen, what did you want to be when you grew up?
