Be Still

Martha and Mary were anxiously waiting for Jesus to arrive while Jesus was waiting two more days before heading their way. Raising Lazarus after four days in the grave would bring glory and honor to the Father, while igniting the beginning to the end for His own life. Although returning to the area of Jerusalem was of great concern to the disciples, they were committed to following Jesus, even if it meant going to die with Him.

Following Jesus sounds simple, but it’s not easy. Jesus said if we follow Him, we will experience hard times, great struggles, and many challenges in our daily lives and relationships. There will be days of waiting like Mary and Martha and days when the way forward seems quite fearful, like it was for the disciples. So, what can we do in those situations, when life seems out of our control just like it was for these followers?

Kim Kirby, a longtime friend and member of our Network, offers an answer in her poem below.

BE STILL

When the wind blows, when the storms come…be still.

When chaos ensues, when you don’t know what to do…be still.

When hope seems lost, when fear overwhelms…be still.

When troubles arise, when you can’t find your way…be still.

When heartache is all you know, when comfort can’t be found…be still.

When joy seems far away, when peace is nowhere in sight…be still.

Be still and know that God is in the midst of your storms.

Be still and know that God has a plan for you.

Be still and know that God will never leave you.

Be still and know that God sees where you are.

Be still and know that God is holding you.

Be still and know that God is…
