Just One Thing

Do you ever wish you could change the world?

You might feel inadequate to make much of a difference. Maybe you feel you don’t have a cure for homelessness or world hunger or enough money to put an end to poverty. But changing the world is not as hard as we may think. Sometimes all it takes to make a difference in the world is to do just one thing in the life of another person.

Sometimes all it takes to make a difference in the world is to do just one thing in the life of another person.

Offering a smile or even a small gesture of kindness, can improve someone's day. It can make someone feel seen or heard; it may even make them feel special. And although brightening another person’s life may seem ever so slight, that one change can shift the dynamics of their world and thereby the world.

Years ago, I learned that if we want to clean a messy a room, the first step is to make one change to freshen the room. Just one thing, like hanging a new decoration on the wall or clearing off one surface or adding a vase of flowers, can act as a catalyst to bring about more change, and before we know it, the room looks fresh and clean.

That’s what happens when we do just one thing to brighten someone else’s life. We become catalysts to initiate other change. And soon the world is being changed in quite a dynamic way, all because of just one thing.

What can you do to make a difference in someone’s life today?
