Lenten Devotion – Finding the Way, the Truth, and the Life
by Katie Harding on April 14, 2025
Have you ever experienced fear of the unknown, unsure of what or if something may happen? It can be one of the greatest fears we face.
Before Jesus heads to the Garden of Gethsemane with His disciples, He reassures them in John 14 that even though He’s going away, the dwelling presence of God among His people will not end - in fact, quite the opposite. Jesus’ going will make it possible for each one of them, and us, to become a dwelling place for the Lord, and we can enter that dwelling place through a relationship with Him. In our belief, He will come and take us there; He is the Way. Jesus previously told His disciples if they lived according to His teachings, they would know the truth, and the truth would set them free (see John 8:31-32). Now, He is clarifying His comment. He is the Truth, the reality we can count on, and the One who will set us free from our burdens, bondage, and sin. And lastly, He is the Life. Jesus is not going to give us eternal life one day. He gives us Himself and becomes our eternal life today. He is the Life who brings light, the Life who sustains, and the Life who is the liaison between us and the Father. As we finish our journey of Lent this week, may we reflect on each aspect of Jesus as the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
Reflect: How does knowing Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life help you work through the fear of the unknown in challenges you encounter?
Prayer: O Lord, open the eyes of my heart that I may see You clearly. Amen.
