Living the Story
by Katie Harding on April 10, 2023
This is a different kind of post today; it is one you can help to write. Imagine with me for a moment…you are one of the women who has gone to the tomb where you saw Jesus’ body placed. You get there and the big boulder that sealed the tomb is now rolled away from the entrance, and there is a person on the rock dressed all in white. He tells you Jesus is no longer in the tomb. “He has risen. Look in and see for yourself,” he states.
Then he says, “Go quickly and tell his disciples, ‘He has been raised from the dead, and indeed he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him.’”
Repeat with me, “Jesus is alive.” If you are like me, it sounds rather mechanical, almost matter of fact. But I would like you to keep repeating it, saying it over and over again, imagining you are one of the women hearing this news for the very first time. “Jesus is alive. Jesus is alive. Jesus is alive. Jesus is alive.” Keep saying it, each time putting the accent on different words. “JESUS is alive. Jesus IS alive. Jesus is ALIVE.” Keep saying it again and again and again. Think of how crazy this all sounds as you say it out loud. “Jesus is alive.”
You tell yourself, “I saw Him die. He was fully dead. His body was taken down, wrapped and placed in the tomb, and now it’s no longer there. He’s alive.”
Imagine the feelings the women must have felt. Feel their excitement welling up in your chest. Feel your pulse starting to race as you want to run to find His disciples. What thoughts must have been going through their minds? “If Jesus is alive, then…”
How would you finish the sentence above? As one of the women at the tomb that first Easter morning, write your answer in the comment section below.
