December 17-23, 2023
Advent is a term that means a period of time of expectant waiting and preparation for the coming of Christ. In this season of Advent, we are expectantly waiting and preparing for Jesus’ return. For the next four weeks, reflect with us upon Jesus’ birth and prepare your hearts for Jesus’ return. We will journey with Hope, Peace, Joy and Love.
This week’s Bible Reading: Psalm 16
Focus Verse:
“You will make known to me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever” (Psalm 16:11).
Prayer Prompts
Day 1: Joy. First coming: Isiah 55 speaks about “The mountains and the hills will break forth into shouts of joy before you, And all the trees of the field will clap their hands.” Second coming: How do you express joy in light of the Lord’s coming?
Day 2: Joy. First coming: Psalm 119 tells us, “This is the day which the Lord has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Second coming: Is it easy for you to rejoice in each day given? Why or why not?
Day 3: Joy. First coming: Psalm 126 teaches us, “Those who sow in tears shall reap with joyful shouting.” Second coming: How does that truth from Psalm 126 show up in your life? Do you experience joyful shouting now in this present age?
Day 4: Joy. First coming: Consider the joy the people experienced when freed from Egyptian slavery. Was it lasting? Second coming: Are you able to “count it all joy” as James tells us to?
Day 5: Joy. First coming: Nehemiah tells his people in chapter 8 that “the joy of the LORD is your strength.” Second coming: In what ways do you experience strength when you choose joy?
