December 10-16, 2023
Advent is a term that means a period of time of expectant waiting and preparation for the coming of Christ. In this season of Advent, we are expectantly waiting and preparing for Jesus’ return. For the next four weeks, reflect with us upon Jesus’ birth and prepare your hearts for Jesus’ return. We will journey with Hope, Peace, Joy and Love.
This week’s Bible Reading: John 14
Focus Verse:
“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful” (John 14:27).
Prayer Prompts
Day 1: Peace. First coming: Consider the chaotic events in the Old Testament. How do you think a person living during those times imagined the peace that the Messiah would bring? Second coming: How do you imagine peace on earth when Jesus returns? How do you live each day with the peace that Jesus has left you?
Day 2: Peace. First coming: Remember the peace that was experienced through Esther’s obedience. Second coming: In what ways are you a person of peace as we await Jesus’ return?
Day 3: Peace. First coming: Job is told to yield to God and be at peace. What do you think the speaker meant by this? Second coming: Can you remember yielding to God and experiencing peace?
Day 4: Peace. First coming: In Psalm 85 the writer mentions that he listens to what the Lord has to say because He speaks peace to His people. The writer found strength in hearing. Second coming: Do you listen for His voice? Do remember the peace that came that hearing?
Day 5: Peace. First coming: The Psalmist in Psalm 119 speaks about those who love God’s commandments experiencing peace and not stumbling. Second coming: How much do you love God’s commandments? What actions support your assessment?
