February 2-8, 2025

Confession is a gift that fosters right relationship with God and others. It is not denominational, it is transformational. God already knows our sin but it is important that we also see and agree with God about our destructive behaviors, thoughts and ideas. Over the next few weeks, we will look at self-awareness, surrender, acknowledge, and authentic connection as avenues to support regular confession to God and others as appropriate.

This week's Bible reading: 1 John 1:5-10

Focus Theme: Confession

Focus Topic: Self Awareness

Focus Verse: “but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin (1 John 1:7).”

Day 1: Notice your emotions. Choose a day to practice the discipline of examen and journal the emotions that come to mind and how your reacted to them. What did you notice? Ask God what do you need to do with this revealed knowledge? Is there anything to confess to the Father or to someone else?

Day 2: List characteristics that you see in yourself in two groups: strengths and weaknesses. In a third column write out Bible verses that address each strength and weakness noted. Pray over your findings for God’s direction.

Day 3: Notice how your actions and words affect those around you. What is their body language? How do they respond in word and deed to you? What do you need to confess to the Father?

Day 4: Practice 5-10 minutes of solitude and silence to allow the Holy Spirit to make you aware of thoughts and feelings that He wants you to notice. Take your findings to God in prayer. What do you need to confess?

Day 5: Seek feedback from trusted friends, family, and/or colleagues about your behavior and how you come across to others. Take your findings to the Father. What do you need to confess?
