January 7-13, 2024

Take a few moments to read over Psalm 103. Let it seep into your mind, heart, and soul as you read. If you know the practice of Lectio Divina, this is a good approach.

If you aren't familiar with Lectio Divina, read over the verses while asking God to show you what He wants to teach you from the words/thoughts. Each time you read through, He might bring a new part of the passages to mind or illuminate a section while giving you greater understanding. This is an ancient practice that Christians have been using to connect with God in a deeper way.

This week’s Bible Reading: Psalm 103:5-8

Focus Verse:

"The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love” (Psalm 103:8).

Prayer Prompts

Day 1: What worldly cravings have been consuming your thoughts? Maybe it's your Christmas list. Or having a clean house. Or your wardrobe. Or your physique. Or your health. We know that we are what we think. So, spend some time renewing your mind - it will renew your youth at the same time!

Day 2: What area of your life feels like an injustice? Maybe you haven't been able to be married or have kids. Maybe your savings account keeps dwindling. Maybe you've been mistreated or lacked love and support from family/friends. Turn those concerns over to God today. He hears your prayers!

Day 3: God's faithfulness is so clear when we read the Old Testament. But, we often wonder why the Israelites missed the part about "following His commands." And then we complain about a line at the post office or missing someone's inventory on a black Friday sale. What ways can you make God's faithfulness known to the people in your life? Find something and share it with others.

Day 4: When I think of the verse about the Lord being compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, I don't have a very good point of reference. I lose my cool just sitting in traffic. The internet is usually a pretty good reflection of "quick to anger." Where do you find your examples to follow? Create a prayer asking God to show you examples of these qualities in others.

Day 5: God is abounding in love for YOU. When was the last time you thought about that? Stop for a moment. Think about it. God's love is plentiful, abundant, lavish, luxurious, extravagant, and boundless. Which word explains it best for you? If you haven't felt God's love for a while or for the first time, I want to remind you that it's not just about feelings. It's about holding on to and telling yourself the truth of God's Word. He loved you from the beginning. He formed you in your mother's womb. He made you fearfully and wonderfully. He crafted you and said, "It was good!" Let it seep in!
