July 7-13, 2024

Follow me. What does it mean to follow Jesus? Confession of sin and profession of faith are just the beginning. The next step is practicing the Way, following Him. We notice the pattern that Jesus demonstrated to His 12 disciples: I do, we do, you do. Following Jesus means that one hangs out with Him, is transformed to be like Jesus and does the things that Jesus did. Over the next few weeks, let’s prayerfully ponder how we can daily follow Him and be formed into His likeness.

This week's Bible reading: Matthew 28:18-20

Focus Verse: "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20)

Prayer Prompts

Day 1: “If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.” (Galatians 5:25) Reflect on what it means to WALK by the Spirit. Ask God to show you in what ways you are NOT walking with Him.

Day 2: If we have given our lives to Christ then through Him we are deemed children of God. " Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children;" (Ephesians 5:1) Jesus is our MODEL for imitation. We should do the things that Jesus did. Recall in your mind things that you remember Jesus doing. Have you repeated any of those things? What keeps you from imitating Christ?

Day 3: " For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps,” (1 Peter 2:21)  Christ suffered for you. Likewise, you will SUFFER for His sake. In what ways have you suffered for Christ’s sake?

Day 4: " Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.” (Colossians 3:17)  THANKS. Jesus modeled a thankful life. In what ways are you expressing thanks through your life lived for Christ? Do you only talk to Jesus or do you speak to the Father? How often do you offer thanks to the Father?

Day 5: TRUTH. "So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.””(John 8:31-32) What is the truth that Jesus is referring to? How often are you in His word? How can you reorder your life to increase your time in His word?
