Lunch is on the House!

Most of the women on our staff were in the office, a rare occasion these days as we are still emerging from our Covid routines. In addition, we had a friend from another ministry who had come for a meeting. As lunchtime neared, a few of us decided it would be fun to order out together. When our friend accepted the invitation to join us, she started for her purse and I quickly let her know, with great excitement, that “lunch is on the house!”

The next day as I was leaving my director’s house with a signed check for our women’s retreat, I was reminded again of the generosity of the organization where I work, enabling individuals to attend events who otherwise might not be able to. Not only that, but as my enneagram seven-self emerged, the one who seizes every opportunity to make life a party, I realized just how energizing it is to be generous! Which then led my fun-fueled thoughts to the fact that the Director of my life really owns everything, and He is more generous than all of us can imagine. He loves for us to give everything of His away.

David reminds us as they were building the temple, “But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand…Lord our God, all this abundance that we have provided for building you a temple for your Holy Name comes from your hand, and all of it belongs to you” (1 Chronicles 29:14-16).

With this in mind, I pondered what it might look like to remind myself that everything I have belongs to God and how delighted He is when I give His riches to others. All that I have including my time, my money, my capacity to love, my possessions, my family and friends, my talents and skills, my thoughts and prayers; they all belong to Him.

While it really is fun to give our own treasures away, the ultimate fun is giving God’s riches away.

While it really is fun to give our own treasures away, the ultimate fun is giving God’s riches away. Join us today in asking God to help us give generously what He has entrusted to us.
