February 16-22, 2025

Confession is a gift that fosters right relationship with God and others. It is not denominational, it is transformational. God already knows our sin but it is important that we also see and agree with God about our destructive behaviors, thoughts and ideas. Over the next few weeks, we will look at self-awareness, surrender, acknowledge, and authentic connection as avenues to support regular confession to God and others as appropriate.

This week's Bible reading: 1 John 1:5-10

Focus Theme: Confession

Focus Topic: Acknowledge Fallibility

Focus Verse: “but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin (1 John 1:7).”

Day 1: Humility is an ongoing process. We have blindspots and we make errors, this is characteristic of being human. How do you feel about being fallible? How do you react when your errors are revealed?

Day 2: As we focus on the practice of confession, it is likely you have something in need of confession to God or someone else on a daily basis? Have you considered the Examen or Lectio 365 as tools to help you include confession into your daily rhythms? If not, in what ways do you include confession? Are you intentional about it?

Day 3: When are you more apt to make mistakes or errors: sleepy, hungry, angry? How can you minimize those occurrences?

Day 4: Today, practice mentally exchanging mistakes and errors that God brings to your mind with grace and mercy. Feel grace and mercy being poured out on you like oil.

Day 5: Pray with your imagination today, as you see yourself standing before Jesus naming and laying down your mistakes at His feet. Leave them there and feel renewed and cleansed.
