February 23-March 1, 2025

Confession is a gift that fosters right relationship with God and others. It is not denominational, it is transformational. God already knows our sin but it is important that we also see and agree with God about our destructive behaviors, thoughts and ideas. Over the next few weeks, we will look at self-awareness, surrender, acknowledge, and authentic connection as avenues to support regular confession to God and others as appropriate.

This week's Bible reading: 1 John 1:5-10

Focus Theme: Confession

Focus Topic: Authentic Connection through Confession

Focus Verse: “but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin (1 John 1:7).”

Day 1: Contrary to popular belief, followers of Jesus require community. Who is a part of your community? Are you a part of a small group be it for fellowship, affinity or Bible Study?

Day 2: Trust is built in community and is the foundation of honest confession. Who can you confess to today about a recent temptation? Initiate an opportunity to talk to them. If no one comes to mind ask God to bring someone into your life.

Day 3: While in community, we are bound to do or say something wrong. Confessing our wrongs to one another allows us the opportunity to receive forgiveness from another which helps strengthen the connections. Think about a time that you confessed to someone in your community. How did they receive your confession? How did it impact your relationship with that person?

Day 4: Think about those in your life who are transparent about their failures and sins. Does their openness make it easier for you to feel safe to confess your sins and failures to them? How about you, are you a person that can receive with grace another’s confession?

Day 5: To conclude our time of thinking about and practicing confession, evaluate where you are on the path. Is confession a regular part of your day’s rhythm? Ask God to help you practice confession daily in a way that honors your relationship with Him and others.
