March 30-April 5

Judges 6 is an epic passage of Scripture that reads like a story. It's a story of faith, testing, and God's presence being made evident in tough circumstances. There are twists and turns and stops and starts. Truly, God's Word is better than any Netflix series. Get excited to learn some new truths from this passage together this month. As we enter into this passage of Scripture, I would encourage you to read the entire passage of Judges 6 upfront. Then, as you come to the verses we look at each week, you will be more familiar with what is happening in the entire passage.

This week's Bible reading: Judges 6

Focus Verses: Judges 6:30-40

Day 1 - verse 30 - Here’s where the promise from verse 23 comes back into play. Remember when God promised Gideon when He gave him peace, told him not to be afraid, and said, “You are not going to die!” How quickly we forget! What promise has God given that you need to stand on today? Remind yourself of that promise. Write it on a sticky note and put it on your mirror. Place it somewhere that you see each day.

Day 2 - verse 32 - Have the people in your life given you a name you don’t like? My nickname was “Smelly” in college because I didn’t like washing my softball uniform. This name that the people gave Gideon is not one I would have wanted. But think about what it says about Gideon. He was obedient and could stand up to their gods. The modern-day version might be, “Let Satan contend with her!” That speaks to the confidence that I want in my walk with Christ. What name have you been given?

Day 3 - verse 33 - 35 - Gideon seems empowered here. He is calling the troops and summoning the people for the fight. He is still struggling as we learn in the next few verses. What is God empowering you to do today? Pray and ask Him to show you.

Day 4 - verses 36 - 38 - Make the fleece wet and keep the ground dry - Gideon wanted to believe God but struggled to truly surrender to his role as a leader. He's relatable in that way. Where are you struggling to surrender? What role are you most challenged by? Motherhood, workplace, friendship, or sisterhood roles could be some of the areas to explore.

Day 5 - verses 39 - 40 - Make the fleece dry and the ground wet - This test was to further confirm God’s intentions, but was it necessary? This final moment is the key for Gideon to confirm that God is who He says He is and does what He says He does. It’s what Gideon needed to trust in God. What does it look like for you to believe that in your life? How many tests have you already given God?

Challenge: Share what you have learned from Judges 6 with someone you know who needs to be reminded that they are a warrior for God. Tell them, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior!”
