Judges 6 is an epic passage of Scripture that reads like a story. It's a story of faith, testing, and God's presence being made evident in tough circumstances. There are twists and turns and stops and starts. Truly, God's Word is better than any Netflix series. Get excited to learn some new truths from this passage together this month. As we enter into this passage of Scripture, I would encourage you to read the entire passage of Judges 6 upfront. Then, as you come to the verses we look at each week, you will be more familiar with what is happening in the entire passage.
This week's Bible reading: Judges 6
Focus Verses: Judges 6:1-10
Day 1: Verse 1 - The Israelites were doing evil in the eyes of the Lord and God handed them over to the Midianites for seven years. How do you perceive this choice by God? In what ways do you want to defend the Israelites? Would you be angry with God in this situation? Would you defend God's choice in light of His name being defamed through evil? Take some time to journal your thoughts about this opening line in this passage.
Day 2: Verses 2-5 - Make a list of all of the ways the Midianites overpowered the Israelites.
Day 3: Verse 6 - This is a clear turn in the passage - the Israelites cry out for help. They've had enough. What area of your life do you need to cry out for help today? Make that your prayer.
Day 4: Verses 7-10 - The Lord sends a prophet (not Gideon) to give them a message. The Israelites cried out for rescue but they were not listening to God. God is upset that His people are crying out, but they are not repenting. There is a difference. What are some areas where you have been crying out but not taking the step of repentance?
Day 5: Take some time today to pray for God's people. Many are not honoring Him with their lives, behavior, or even interactions with non-believers. God desires His name to be kept pure not for Himself but for the sake of the world.
Challenge: Choose one thing that is hindering your walk with God and ask someone you trust to hold you accountable in that one area for the next month.
