January 12-18, 2025

As we begin a New Year, we all want to create a fresh start or begin a new habit. Did you know that January is the worst time to try to change a routine?  Your body and mind are in a season of winter. It’s a time of stillness. Being slow and gentle with yourself is the better choice for this month. You can take inventory and look beneath the surface of life but this month, don’t try to make drastic changes. Your better place is at the foot of Jesus, prayerfully resting, and listening/waiting.

This week's Bible reading: "I will both lie down and sleep in peace; for you alone, O Lord, make me lie down in safety." (Psalm 4:8).

Focus Theme: Stillness

Prayer Prompts

Day 1: Having trouble sleeping? Take inventory of your thoughts and what may be occupying your mind.

Day 2: If you are sleeping more right now in this season, that’s because the season calls for more rest. Don’t feel guilty but set the alarm a bit later this week and enjoy the dark mornings of winter in peace.

Day 3: Lots of people offer sleep concoctions - mushrooms, magnesium, chamomile, etc. This verse says only God can make us lie down. He also determines our rest. Ask him for His hand of rest to be upon you.

Day 4: Psalm 23 uses the same term - He makes me lie down in green pastures. Turn to that passage in your Bible and meditate on it before bed tonight.

Day 5:What are your green pastures this week? Make a list and count them as blessings (instead of sheep).
