November 10-16, 2024

Michele introduced us to Colossians 3:12 that was used in a book by Kelly Minter (“Fitting Room”). Over the next few weeks we will continue to unpack two other virtues highlighted therein: gentleness and humility.

This week's Bible reading: Colossians 3:12

Focus Theme: Clothing yourself with gentleness

Prayer Prompts

Day 1: Most of us get dressed with intentionality each day. In the same way, we can intentionally invite the Spirit to manifest gentleness through us in our speech. Practice the following breath prayer: “Lord, I receive your gentleness and release my severity”. Use it when you are tempted to respond in harsh ways.

Day 2: Think about a time when someone was harsh or severe with you. Replay the scene but change their response into a more gentle one.

Day 3: Imagine yourself putting on gentleness each time you apply lipstick or lip balm to your lips.

Day 4: Before going into a meeting or conversation today pray, Lord, help me to show your gentleness.

Day 5: Speak a prayer of confession to the Lord, “Father, please forgive me for the times that I have not been gentle with my words and hands. I ask that you help me to be more gentle”. Feel free to create your own prayer of forgiveness.

Challenge: Take the time to examine your week. Ask God to show you the times that you were gentle and not gentle. Offer up a prayer of thanks for when you were gentle and forgiveness for when you were not.
